When the promise is broken, you go on livin'

I was going to post a remembrance to my Mom on the anniversary of her death last week, but I decided against it. Besides, I guess I would just be repeating this, this, this and lastly, this.

Or a variation thereof.

But speaking of that last link, and baseball, I found this. Lucky for me, the Internet never forgets, as I did. Mantle's second home run was actually in the bottom of the 9th. So my delirium, and my Mom's, was short lived as the game ended just a few moments later with a Yankees loss.

The game was memorable for many reasons: Mantle hit two HRs, it was Old-Timer's Day and my Mom shushed me when I hollered "Moose" when Bill "Moose" Skowron was introduced (she thought I was booing, and polite fans would never do that), and Buddy Rich and his band played between the Old-Timer's Game and regular game.

Still, nearly 48 years later, a lot from that day has understandably been forgotten. And forgive me if I am repeating myself with my thoughts from those days.

Those thoughts, which are all that's left, keep repeating in my mind as well.
