Speaking of my vinyl comeback, the kids and I were recently in a thrift shop just moseying about. They had a small stack of albums tucked away, and knowing I was in the process of renovating and rediscovering my collection, I stopped for a minute.
As per usual, not much there. Except this ------->
Always Top 40 ear candy for me, but they were never really taken seriously by me, or the critics. But I seemed to like almost everything I heard. Especially "Midnight Confessions," "Baby Hold On" and "Where Were You When I Needed You?" And these guys were big: From 1967 to 1972, The Grass Roots set a record for being on the Billboard charts 307 straight weeks.
So, hey, this must be worth a buck, right? Especially since I had no Grass Roots anywhere in my collection, right?
Well, I have to say, none of this music may be deep or profound. But I have to admit, all of these are just little pop masterpieces. Well-crafted three-minute gems are hard to come by, especially today.
Guilty pleasures? No, just soothing balms for an old-man's angered psyche.
All damn 16 of them.
