New York Daily News Oct, 12, 1980 |
Pack rat that I tend to be, I saved a Daily News with a review of "The River." Jack had no interest in that, but was fascinated by a couple of USSR-related articles ("wow -- reading about the Cold War as it was happening!").
He was also interested in the Mideast article at right, commenting that the headline, if not the whole piece, is something that could be pulled from the news today.
He asked me why, and I, of course, had no answer. I did try to explain how complicated it all is and tell him that the article could have even older than 34 years and the principles and issues would still be largely unchanged.
Jack really loves history; I am hoping that in 34 more years he will not be still be reading articles of a similar nature.
But I fear that he will.
By the way, "The River" review was positive.
