The good stuff that once populated Top 40 radio, and I would argue, the greatest gospel-driven song ever to grace the Hit Parade (with apologies to the great Curtis Mayfield).
This cut is made even more interesting by the guitar work of one Glenn Schwartz, he of the pre-Joe Walsh version of The James Gang out of Cleveland.
Schwartz had guitar skills that supposedly caught the ears of Hendrix, Clapton and others. However, he also found drugs and other rock-star distractions, and this led to giving it all up for the Lord (I think his stay in this gospel-like trappings of Pacific, Gas & Electric may have been his stop in rock and gospel Purgatory before devoting all his time to heavenly pursuits).
However, those heavenly pursuits apparently became more and more bizarre. After a stint in the All Saved Freaks Band, he retreated to a life of poverty and piousness, only playing out occasionally in the Cleveland area. Those shows were punctuated by his proselytizing, yelling at the crowd to repent and referring to the women in attendance as "whores," among other things. A mighty strange tale.
But I digress. "Are You Ready," is one delicious call to the righteous; everything about this is right. Who said the devil has the best music?
"People say he won't come. I don't know, what say you?"
