Well, this year's baseball season ended over the weekend in the second round of the playoffs as the North Wake Giants were eliminated by the Brewers 17-7. Since I last wrote about the team, they put together two victories and one loss before the season came crashing down in a disappointing effort on Saturday.
Jack's great campaign was highlighted by a rally-starting triple in the last game of the regular season that awoke the team and their bats, and sent them into the playoffs on a high note.
The photo below is the most indelible image from the entire season.
It's an illustration of the joy that he got from being part of a team, the pride he felt in his improved play and having increasing success as the season progressed, and the encouragement he received from his coaches that was consistent all season long.
Jack didn't have the most baseball skill on the team; this was his first time playing organized baseball. But no one had more effort, was more coachable or got more out of his ability. By the end of the season he had been moved up five places in the batting order and made several sparkling defensive plays at second base.

At the end-of-the-year team party, Jack's coach recognized his contributions by saying, "Jack is why I coach. No one gave me more this season."
That’s Jack, who is celebrating 10 years today.
I am celebrating it as well. Ironically, June 3, 2003 was the exact day when I began to understand what was really important in life…..
Happy birthday Jack!
