Every Day Will Be Like a Holiday

How about a great Christmas song that is not ostensibly a Christmas song? William Bell’s “Every Day Will Be Like a Holiday,” doesn’t mention Christmas, snow, jingle bells, chestnuts roasting over an open fire, Jesus or even St. Nick.

Instead, it invokes a feeling. A feeling of what the best Christmas ever would feel like if you got the PERFECT gift. Savvy soul DJs like the great Rufus Thomas first served this gem up in Yuletide rotations because they understood that feelings are the essence of Christmas time, and that you don’t have to be child to have wondrous childlike expectations.

Still, the record is splendid every day of the year, but especially magnificent RIGHT NOW.

Number three on the Great Christmas song list.
